ABOUT

About

The Bounce is a progressive four-piece funk and neo-soul outfit from Nashville, Tennessee. The quartet consists of singer/bassist Garrett “Gert” Arwood, guitarists Jackson Anderson and Niko Tripodis, and drummer/percussionist Andy Stone.

The group’s main focus is to create a sound that encourages both fun and thought through a combination of groove-laden instrumentals and melodies and detailed arrangements. This contrast makes for a unique sound that demands that the audience moves their bodies and uses their brains!

Band History

The Bounce got their start in late 2018 when the quartet first met during their freshman year of college at Belmont University. With the exception of a few jam sessions and small
house shows around Nashville, the group’s first excursion together was as a backing band in Sarasota, Florida, for country singer/songwriter Carter Faith when she opened for Cole
Swindell in March 2019.

Since then, the members of the group went on to act as sideman musicians for various local artists in the Nashville music scene. However, they all remained close during this time, and, recognizing the musical chemistry that existed between them, decided to form a group that was a nice blend of the jazz training of Tripodis and Stone with and blues and funk experience of Anderson and Arwood. The group chose to name
themselves the Bounce, and their debut show happened at Fordham University in New York City in late February 2020—roughly two weeks prior to the beginning to the COVID-19

pandemic.

While in quarantine, the group took the time to sharpen their skills, create some original music, and focus on their next steps professionally. In 2021, the group has since reunited in person and is currently writing and recording their debut album, which will be a blend of vocal and instrumental songs that range from the blues rock of Stevie Ray Vaughan to the jazz-funk of Herbie Hancock and the Head Hunters.

Garrett “Gert” Arwood

Hailing from Clemson, South Carolina, Garrett “Gert” Arwood’s musical journey began when he got a guitar for his 10th birthday. After briefly taking up the trumpet in middle school, Arwood picked up the bass so he could play in the school’s jazz ensemble. He quickly fell in love with both the instrument and the concept of making music. Some major influences on Arwood’s development include the likes of Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Flea, Nathan East, and James Jamerson. After years of playing blues gigs around upstate South Carolina and playing in various classical and jazz ensembles, Arwood’s musical journey took him to Nashville, Tennessee. In 2018, he enrolled in Belmont University to pursue a career in music. He has become a sought-after bassist and vocalist in the local scene due for both live performance and session work.  He will graduate from Belmont in the winter of 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in music. As a creator, Arwood is directly inspired by 70’s funk and R&B, neo-soul, and jazz fusion, and his goal is to make these favorite styles into something of his own.
